Stop that pigeon – or Can the spam

This blog has been here since 2006, albeit inactive the majority of that time, I think I’ve only ever deleted 1 spam message in all that time. But of course now, after an update and a few new posts and Wham-o! Spam-o! Go figure. How obnoxious is that? Have a blog up for a couple of days and here they come, posting comments about gibberish, male enhancing products and all that other fun stuff. Just beautiful.
I don’t know why, but I just can’t help but envision a can of that oft picked on processed, gelatin like “meat” that goes by the same name. Gross!! And to think I used to like it when I was growing up! Whats worse; my parents actually fed it to me and my siblings. I don’ t know which is worse.
On the bright side, I can say at least my blog and posts are findable. So that’s a good thing! (I’m not typically one to look on the bright side, but what else is there to do?)
So what can a poor fickle frank do about these unwanted canned comments? Well I can implement a captcha system. You know whenever I read that word; “captcha”, I can’t help but see the word “catch”. I dunno why that is, but whats even more strange is then I instantly start singing the old title song to the cartoon “Stop that Pigeon”. Like I said, no idea why that is. But it happens every time. (sorry for the side-trek)
So what with all this Spam coming in suddenly, it looks like I do need a captcha system on the blogs comments. Honestly I probably should have done that during my upgrade anyway. But seriously, I didn’t think I’d be getting spam three days into having the site live with new posts.
And now I will go through the various wordpress plugins and attempt to find one that does what its supposed to do, but one that does it well.
Any one out there have any WP captcha plugin advice?
Which plugin do you use?
How good is it?
Leave me a comment about your selections and suggestions. Until then I will continue to moderate the comments (good thing I didn’t turn that off).
