About
Welcome to my little niche of the world wide web.
Who is Fickle Frank?
My name is Frank, and I suffer from HADD or what I call Hobby Attention Deficit Disorder. Now you might say “ahh yes another person with ADD“. Thats not the case here, I don’t really have ADD nor have I been diagnosed with AD/HD, OCD, ASAP or any of the other new wave illnesses that have seemed to strike down the worlds population. I simply have a self inflicted problem with the quantity of things that I have interest in. Which in turn keeps me jumping from interest to interest and project to project. I guess I’m what you would call a Jack of All and Master of None.
Is it a bad thing? That probably depends on who you’re asking. But, I can tell you that it can become a little irritating and a little frustrating. However, I have to admit, if it wasn’t for this problem of nigh unlimited interest, I wouldn’t be as well rounded of a person as I have become.
So a little bit about me aside from the issue at hand. I am a husband of 11 years (guess I don’t have ADD in that area!) and a Father of 6 little boys (yes all boys). I am a programmer by trade and I enjoy pretty much everything, although I have to say a couple of my biggest hobby interests are Web and Game development, which is where most of my project ADD falls into play. If you follow me long enough you will find the blog changing its layout and features alot as I add things and tweak code, I just can’t help it. I can only hope that it doesn’t keep me from actually posting articles here.
Aside from the two major interests listed above I also have an interest in wood carving, vacuum forming, foam construction, animitronics, halloween, sculpting, drawing, music, video-games, prop making, film making, pod-casting, miniature war gaming, role-playing, board gaming, masonry work, home renovation, film make-up, pretty much anything to do with Zombies, tattooing and the list goes on; but I don’t want to bore you to death with all of my hobbies/interests.
So whats the blog about?
Well my first hope is that by sharing information here on the blog and posting tutorials and such will help reinforce my own knowledge. Second I am hoping that posting about my various interests and projects will help keep me focused and thinking about them.
Why do you think you jump around so much?
Hey thanks for asking! Well, one of the reasons is because theres no consequence for doing so. None of these projects have deadlines or hard requirements so abandoning them is easy enough once interest has worn out. As someone who deals daily with deadlines, scoping documents, project meetings, status calls, bosses and clients. Its nice to have something that really brings enjoyment and interest at the end of the day. So when a personal project starts to feel like work I jump to something that doesn’t. Eventually though, that first project will re-surface and then I will pick it back up and work on it some more. So never fear, although I do jump around alot I do eventually return to a pet project to complete it. (You asked.)
Anyway, if you’ve made it this far, Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy the blog! Don’t be a stranger!
